UOG MPA Class Hosts "Inspire: Gov Talks" Series
The University of Guam School of Business and Public Administration’s graduate students in PA570 (Special Topics in Public Personnel Administration) class are pleased to announce the first ever Inspire!GovTalks event. The event is meant to inspire individuals to consider a career in public service and to re-inspire those we are already in government service.
Current research has shown that there are low (negative) perceptions of public agencies that are often tied to economic and social stressors that affect public opinion. While opinion and perceptions are not measured indicators of achieving the goals of a public organization, it still affects and impacts the attitudes toward public servants and the services they provide.
The students developed an idea to (re)inspire public service through a TED Talks style activity, where presenters will share their story of commitment, passion, and dedication to public service; in this way it is not so much the content of the public work being presented but rather the context and stories of perseverance and passion to public service that students hope to convey.
Presenters include Former Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of the Interior Tony Babauta, Senior Judicial Therapist Dr. Lisa Baza, and General Manager of the Port Authority of Guam Joanne Brown.
The Public Administration graduate students along with their faculty invite the public to attend the event on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at 5:30pm at the SBPA building on the UOG Campus, Room 130 for che’sa and light refreshments and inspirational speaking at 6 pm.
The event will be filmed through the support and sponsorship of KGTF/PBS Guam, and
will be aired on their public channels at a later date. In addition, SBPA will live-stream
the event on their YouTube channel.
