UOG Men's Varsity Basketball Wins GMCBL Championship
The University of Guam Men's Varsity Basketball Team won the Guam Men's College Basketball League Championship on Saturday night in the
UOG Calvo Field House with a 84-63 win over the UOG Men's Basketball Club Team.
The UOG Club Team made a battle out of it, hanging with the Varsity Tritons for 30
minutes of the 40 minute game. UOGC led 35-33 at half-time and was only down 52-49
with 10 minutes left in the game, but the UOG Varsity did what they normally do in
the College League. They wore down their opponents with defense and pace as the UOG
Club just didn't have enough bodies to keep up with the deep Varsity team. The Varsity
press and inside game proved too much for the Club as the Varsity Tritons outscored
the Club 58-26 in the paint and forced the Club into 25 turnovers.
Ryan Nangauta led the UOG Varsity with 30 points and Raffy Sablan added 12 for the
only two double digit scorers for UOGV. Jason Seid matched Nanguata with 30 points
for the Club Tritons and Brandon Lee Aritos added 10 for the Club Team plus pulled
down 16 rebounds to lead both teams.
The Varsity Tritons end the GMCBL with an 8-0 record while the Club Team went 3-5
for the season.
The UOG Varsity Team will play in the Guam March Madness Tournament over next 2 weeks
before starting the Guam Basketball Association League, Season 3 on April 2.
