Our sister islands of Chuuk and Yap have experienced extensive damage due to Typhoon Maysak.  The University of Guam President, Dr. Robert A. Underwood, has initiated a University-wide campaign to assist our friends and neighbors who are in dire need of our help.  Please be generous in your support.

Points of contact will be established within each school/college/division.  This list is being coordinated and will be distributed when completed.

The overall central contact for Operation Maysak Relief is the Executive Office. The Executive Office team members who will serve as liaisons for collections with the school/college/division are:

The areas of support where you can make a difference are: 

  1. Food/Water and Clothing/Supply Drive.  Food includes non-perishable food items such as, but not limited to, canned goods (self-opening preferred), rice, and other packaged items. Water includes boxed water if possible (versus plastic bottles) to minimize environmental concerns on the islands. Clothing includes, but is not limited to, all sizes of clothing and shoes/zories appropriate for the island environment. Supplies include, but are not limited to, durable tarps with eyelets to be used for shelter and as water catchment systems; polyester or nylon ropes for the tarps; farming/planting equipment (hoes, spades, machetes, hammers, etc); fishing equipment; and construction materials (including good wooden pallets, bottle crates, nails, bungee cords, etc).  

    Timeline is:

    Apr 6, 2015, before 3pm: Effective immediately, you can bring donations (food, water, clothing, and tarp) up through this date and time to the Executive Office.  These items will be donated for immediate delivery to the islands.

    Apr 10, 2015, by 3pm After April 6th at 3pm, donated items (food, water, clothing, and supplies) can be delivered to the designated representatives of each school/college/division and will be delivered to the islands via shipping container.

    Beyond April 10th – to be announced as flights and/or containers are identified for delivery.

  2. Fund Drive.The monetary goal is $3,000. If donating by check, make check payable to “University of Guam”. These funds will be consolidated and donated for the purchase of supplies needed by the islands for recovery.   This Drive will occur from April3-15, 2015.  All monetary donations should be made to the designated representatives that is publicized or Executive Office team members listed above. No one else is authorized to receive funds donated for Operation Maysak Relief.

  3. Communications Services.  TADEO is available for students and community members who need to make contact with family members in the impacted areas.  Point of contact is Manny Hechanova at (671) 735-2620/1 or  mannyh@uguam.uog.edu.

All donations will be consolidated and provided to the Ayuda Foundation.
