UOG Announces New Hires
The University of Guam has named Joseph Gumataotao, Esq. its new Equal Employment
Opportunity and Title IX Director/ Americans with Disabilities Act Coordinator.
Gumataotao oversees and investigates all cases of misconduct in relation to EEO, Title IX and ADA for the University. He also maintains and develops policies and procedures in these areas.
He returns to his alma mater after most recently operating his private law practice for the last year. Gumataotao received a B.A. in Communication from UOG in 2004, but it was his minor in political science and working for the Guam Legislature that sparked his interest in law. Gumataotao attended Ave Maria School of Law, finishing his degree in 2011 in Naples, Florida.
Gumataotao previously worked as a senior law clerk, with Superior Court Judge Anita Sukola and has experience as a policy research analyst at the Guam Legislature.
“I’m honored and grateful to be selected for this position,” Gumataotao said. “We’re looking forward to promoting awareness and ensuring UOG remains a safe and inclusive environment in which to learn and work.
UOG has also named Sallie Sablan its new Student Academic Counseling Specialist with
ADA Specialization.
Sablan’s role at the University falls under academic advisement—helping undeclared students identify their passions and supporting degree programs at UOG. She also assists and provides accommodations to students with disabilities.
Sablan received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western Kentucky University in 1983 and 1988 respectively. Sablan previously served as the Education and Disabilities Manager for the Guam Department of Education Headstart program.
“I’m thrilled to be back in the inclusive practice field and serving all students, especially those with disabilities,” Sablan said.
