UOG Accounting Students Win AGA Government Case Challenge
University of Guam accounting students were recently named the winners of this year’s Government Finance Case Challenge hosted by the Association of Government Accountants (AGA).
Rachel Bongato, Masako Watabe, and Von Jaylarr Alcoran competed as finalists against students from the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras Campus and Troy University and competed in two phases.
Each team was required to compile and submit a citizen-centric report and justification essay in the first phase of the competition. The UOG team chose the local government of Stamford, Connecticut as their focus for the report. For the second phase of the competition, the students prepared a video presentation for the judges’ review.
“We are tremendously proud of the hard work and competitive spirit of our students,” said UOG Assistant Professor of Accounting Dr. Doreen Crisostomo, the group’s supervisor. “They really shined throughout the competition.”
This is the third year in which UOG has won the AGA Government Finance Case Challenge. UOG accounting students also took home the highest honor in 2011 and 2012. In 2013 and 2014, UOG students came in 2nd place.
