The wait is nearly over for the grand opening of the new Calvo Field House Triton Fitness Center.

The updates to the Triton Fitness Center are just the first phase of a two-phase, $3 million project funded by the U.S. Department of the Interior and the University of Guam capital improvement project fund.

Robert McIntosh, Capital Improvement Project Coordinator, said students are excited and eager to use the new facility which includes improvements such as an enclosed and fully renovated weight room, updated bathrooms, personal showers, and extensive locker space.

“If I were a student and wanted to do some physical exercise between classes, the Triton Fitness Center would be a great place to go,” he said.

Improved Experience

When first walking in to the Triton Fitness Center, students are greeted by the new air conditioning that fills the now enclosed weight room and locker room areas, making exercising a more comfortable experience at the Calvo Field House.

Across from the free weight area, two fitness rooms house cardio and weight-lifting machines, giving students, staff, and alumni the luxury of circuit training.

McIntosh said these are the first major renovations to the weight room, fitness rooms, and locker complex since the Field House was built in 1982.

The Triton Fitness Center will be open for students beginning Wednesday, September 16. For more information, contact UOG Calvo Field House at (671) 735-2861.
