Students, Staff, and Volunteers Paint the Student Services Center
The newly painted Student Services Center.
After two days, 70 volunteers, and 13 cans of paint, the University of Guam’s Student Services Center received a major makeover last weekend in the form of a fresh coat of paint and clean exterior.
Eden Galvez, Student Life Office Program Coordinator, said the idea of beautifying the Student Services Center was long coming and with the financial help of UOG’s Student Government Association (SGA), it finally came to fruition.
“This building is the hub of student activities and events,” Galvez said. “We hope the beautified building will be more inviting for our students.”
More than 40 volunteers comprised of students, faculty and staff members arrived early Saturday morning to help pull weeds and paint the outside of the building. With the help of about 30 volunteers on Sunday, the work was finished ahead of schedule in spite of heavy rains and extreme heat.
“I think this will make the Student Services Center more attractive, and students will actually want to come by more often,” said Student Government Association President Jericho Tobias.
Tobias said SGA funded the $5,000 endeavor because the members wanted to feel pride in their campus.
Kebor Kerradel, former SGA president, said current and incoming students would appreciate the new look of the building because it shows that the staff, faculty and students are working toward the betterment of UOG.
“It will give them the idea that yes, UOG is going from Good to Great, “ she said.
“Students can see that there is progress, and SGA is a part of the Good to Great mission.”
