Students from Miyagi University (MYU) located in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan visited the University of Guam campus on a two-day study tour last week in hopes of creating a lasting academic student exchange program with UOG.

During their stay, six Japanese students, a group of professors from Miyagi University and Japanese government officials attended campus tours, guest lectures, visited the UOG Marine Laboratory, and shared their culture with UOG students with a short dance session and lesson lead by two MYU students Tuesday afternoon, said Director of Professional and International Programs Carlos Taitano.

Professor of Global Studies at MYU Timothy Phelan said this was the first time anyone from MYU visited UOG, but because of Guam’s location, environment, and the friendliness of UOG’s student body, this would be an ideal place for MYU students to study.

“The reason we brought the students to the University of Guam is to get their feedback on whether this would be a good place to study,” Phelan said. “There are so many things that make UOG a good fit.”
