MARC Seminar to Feature Film about Manenggon March and Concentration Camp
The Richard Flores Taitano Micronesian Area Research Center (MARC) at the University of Guam announces the next installment in its seminar series, featuring a screening of the documentary Manenggon March and Concentration Camp Survivor Accounts beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences Lecture Hall on the UOG campus.
Produced and directed by MARC Research Associate Rlene Santos Steffy and edited by UOG graduate of communication and journalism, Jessi Jon Santos, the documentary presents personal accounts of CHamoru endurance during the two-week rush at the end of the Japanese occupation to assemble the island’s people into the Manenggon Valley. It captures the hardship and personal loss associated with the experience and looks at the impact of surviving the march to Manenggon and the concentration camp.
The event will open with an address by CHamoru historian Dr. Laura Marie Torres Souder,
followed immediately by the 120-minute video presentation.
