KUAM NEWS: Guamanian recounts 9/11 while at the Pentagon
It was the deadliest terror attack in US history, and one local Guamanian recalls
who survived the attacks firsthand. Ret. Army officer Dave Okada (UOG Chief Planning
Officer) was stationed at the Pentagon during the infamous 9/11 terrorist attacks
that included the hijacking of four passenger planes and resulted in the deaths of
nearly 3,000 civilians and first responders.
Once the first planes crashed into the World Trade Center Twin Tower in the early mornings of September 11, 2001, the Pentagon jumped into action. That's when Okada remembers heading to a meeting on the western side of the Pentagon, saying, "I heard a loud crash and saw smoke."
