Isla Center for the Arts presents Creative Hands
The Isla Center for the Arts at the University of Guam is proud to announce the opening of the exhibition Creative Hands: Selected Works by Local Artists on December 1, 2016. This biennial exhibition will be the thirteenth in a series of juried exhibits since 1992 sponsored by the Isla Center for the Arts.
The Isla Center for the Arts received 179 entries from 26 artists for consideration.
Dr. Paula Ray, the juror for this display, selected 28 works of art created by 16
artists.
Paula Ray holds a PhD in New Media Studies from the University of Auckland, an MA in International Communication from the University of Leeds, an MA in Political Science from the University of Calcutta, and a BA in Political Science from St. Xavier’s College. She is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Ntec Tertiary Group in New Zealand. Previous positions include Freelance Journalist, with published articles in BBC and Forbes, Associate Editor of Indian Weekender as well as Graphic Designer and Technical Editor.
The exhibition consists of a variety of media including digital photographs, watercolor and acrylic paintings, ceramic pieces, and mixed media compositions.
The selected artists include: Monica Baza, John Dierking, Mariah Edquilane, Judy Flores, Dora Herrero, Sarah Johnson, Snow Kowatch, Yasuko Kurakawa, Snyder Macaraeg, Richard Olmo, Robin Olmo, Yeon Sook Park, Dawn Lees Reyes, Robert Sajnovsky, Jay Sullivan, and Olympia Terral.
Creative Hands: Selected Works by Local Artists opens on December 1, 2016 and will be on exhibit through February 3, 2017. The Isla Center for the Arts is open to the public, free of charge, Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Groups are cordially invited to call the Isla Center at (671) 735-2965 to schedule tours of the exhibit. This project is supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities Agency, A Division of the Department of Chamorro Affairs, Government of Guam, Office of the Governor, and the University of Guam.
