International Friendship Club Wins Badminton Battle
It was a test of endurance at the first event of the 4th Annual University of Guam
President’s Cup, where the International Friendship Club (IFC) took first place in
Badminton against the ROTC Arctic Panda Monkeys.
Ray Choi and Rhoda Basto of IFC went undefeated into the match against Ayn Charfauros
and John Sazon of the Arctic Panda Monkeys, who had battled their way back from the
loser’s bracket to the championship. After each winning a set, the Arctic Panda Monkeys
took the first match by winning the tie-breaker with a score of 5-4.
However, Choi and Basto were not deterred, and their endurance prevailed as they fought
their way to victory in the final match, which again ended with a tie-breaker resulting
in a score of 5-4.
Basto said she was fighting through leg cramps in the last game, and was ready to
“end it all” by the final set. Although both Choi and Basto were exhausted, they said
they were both very excited about the win and for the upcoming events.
