Guam Women's College Volleyball League Begins Tomorrow
The University of Guam Triton Women's Volleyball Team finally hits the court tomorrow in the opening match of the Guam Women's College Volleyball League, which begins its first season at the UOG Calvo Field House.
The UOG Volleyball Team will play against the Guam Community College team at 6:00 p.m.
This league brings together 3 of Guam's 4 colleges and a UOG Club team to play intercollegiate volleyball.
"It was a natural situation for the club team at UOG," said UOG Athletic Director Doug Palmer. "We had 50 UOG students come out for the varsity volleyball team last August, so there was a great interest in volleyball on the campus. We knew we had the students to support another volleyball team".
To play on the UOG Varsity Team, you must be a full-time student (minimum 12 credits) at UOG with a 2.00 GPA. To play for the UOG Club Team, students must be enrolled and taking at least one class.
The league will play a 6 match double round robin regular season and then have a championship tournament on March 11. The league will come back in the Fall of 2017 to give the Lady Tritons an earlier playing season next year.
"We will try to start this league next fall to give our team an early playing season and either have a 2nd season later in the year or try to start another league in the spring," added Palmer.
On Tuesday, the UOG Varsity Team will play Guam Community College at 6:00 p.m. followed by the UOG Club Team playing Pacific Islands University at 8:00pm. Admission to all games is free.
