Guam Engineers to Hold Bridge Competition at UOG
On Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, GHD, SAME Guam Post, the Guam
Society of Professional Engineers, and UOG Endowment Foundation are sponsoring the
Fifth Annual Harold Dean Gillham Bridge Design/Build Competition teams from private
and public high schools will be competing in a variety of categories.
This event is the culminating activity for E-Week (Engineers Week) with the goal of
exposing the island’s young people to the engineering profession and increasing dialogue
about the critical need for professional engineers on the island and in the region.
Participating schools were given free bridge building kits and guidelines during E-Week
in preparation for this competition. Notre Dame High School swept all the awards in
2016 beating out nearly 30 competitors.
The competition will be held in the Anthony Leon Guerrero Multi-Purpose Room #129
located in the Jesus & Eugenia Leon Guerrero Business & Public Administration Building
on the UOG campus. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top winners in each category.
The winners will be judged based on Best Aesthetics, Strength to Weight Ratio, and
Highest Load Applied.
