Goal Diggers Dig Their Way to Glory in Volleyball

The Goal Diggers fought their way through the entire loser’s bracket for a hard-earned comeback in this week’s volleyball tournament.

The tournament, spanning two evenings of intense dives, digs and kills, was the fifth event in the 4th Annual President’s Cup.

Jorge Piolo, Derek Sagun, Foe Aguilar, K. Caulin, Tamara Celis and Samuel Reyo of the Goal Diggers lost in the first round of the tournament to the UOG Alumni but battled through six matches to make their way into the championship round.

The Goal Diggers faced the undefeated Republic of Palau Student Organization Yellow in the championship. The Goal Diggers took down RPSO Yellow two matches in a row to take home the first place in the tournament.

“We started from the bottom, now were here!” chanted team captain Nathan Mercado after the comeback.

Dominic Uson, another member of the Goal Diggers, stood on the sideline and gave a victory howl for each point his team scored in the final match, cheering his team to the gold.
