Students enjoy fun, food and fundamentals at the Student Services Center rotunda on August 19 and 20.

Seasoned students welcomed the newest Tritons to the University of Guam with fun, food, and fundamentals on the first day of the Fall 2015 semester yesterday.

Eden Galvez, Student Life Office Program Coordinator said in coordination with UOG’s 54th Student Government Association, all students were able to bring in the new semester with a bang.

“It was a great turn out the first day and today,” she said. “We’re encouraging them to get involved too because if they have that connection, it makes them feel like they belong.”

This year, the University also welcomed 58 merit scholars from high schools across the island.

In the newly painted Student Services Center, booths with representatives from the Student Government Association, Coast360, Bank of Guam, and Student Life Office were set up in the rotunda for students to explore in-between classes. Galvez said having everyone there was a great opportunity to disseminate information to the student body.

With music playing and a Ping Pong table set up in the middle of the room, students in passing could get in a few rounds of table tennis, grab a snack from the cafeteria, and meet up with friends before heading off to their next class.

Freshman business administration major Noely San Juan said she and freshman nursing major Sky Lee live on campus, and so far, college is turning out to be a great experience.

“My classes are really good so far,” San Juan said. “I like the campus vibe, and the people we meet are really friendly.”

Galvez said she’s excited for all the upcoming events on campus and that students should be on the lookout for the great things to come at UOG.
