Call for Applications to UOG’s Master of Science in Clinical Psychology Program


The Psychology Program at the University of Guam is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for the fourth cohort of the Master of Science in Clinical Psychology (MSCP) Program, which will begin in Fall Semester 2014.  This is a two-year, full-time program leading to a Master of Science Degree in Clinical Psychology and to licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

The program is outlined in detail in the University of Guam Graduate Bulletin (available from the Office of Graduate Studies, Research and Sponsored Programs) and online at http://www.uog.edu/degrees/master-of-science-in-clinical-psychology including the program objectives, admission requirements, degree requirements, course requirements, and course descriptions.  An Information Session will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2014 from 6:30-8:30 pm in the CLASS Dean’s Office – Professional Development Room (3rd Floor, Humanities and Social Sciences Bldg).  Applications are due May 16, 2014.  Interviews with top candidates will be held in June. Applications received after May 16 will be considered only if space is available.  Successful applicants will begin taking classes on August 20, 2014.  The class schedule will be as follows:

  • Mondays: PY692a (10:00 am – 12:50 pm) and PY501 (4:00 pm – 5:20 pm)
  • Tuesdays: PY641 (4:00 pm – 5:20 pm) and PY511 (5:30 pm – 6:50 pm)
  • Wednesdays: PY501 (4:00 pm – 5:20 pm)
  • Thursdays: PY641 (4:00 pm – 5:20 pm) and PY511 (5:30 pm – 6:50 pm)

To apply, please submit the following materials to the Office of Graduate Studies, Research and Sponsored Programs, Health Sciences Building, Room 138, First Floor, University of Guam, UOG Station, Mangilao, Guam 96923:

  1. Application for Admission Form (available from the Office of Graduate Studies, Research and Sponsored Programs) or apply online at www.uog.edu/admissions/apply-online.
  2. A non-refundable application fee of $49.00 for resident/non-resident applicants or $74.00 for international (I-20) foreign applicants (check made payable to “University of Guam”).
  3. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, sent directly from the awarding institution/s to the Office of Graduate Studies, Research and Sponsored Programs.
  4. Two (2) letters of recommendation from individuals that are familiar with your academic or professional performance.  Letters should be addressed to the Assistant Vice President.
  5. A letter of intent addressed to the Assistant Vice President indicating your wish to pursue the Master of Science Degree in Clinical Psychology (also send a copy of the letter of intent to the Program  Co-Chairs).
  6. Curriculum  vitae.
  7. A Personal Statement (Statement of Accomplishments, Interests, Goals, and Reasons) of no more than 1000 words addressing the following:
    • An autobiographical sketch outlining the personal, professional, and academic experiences that have prepared you to pursue graduate training in clinical psychology.
    • A discussion of why you are applying specifically to UOG’s Master of Science in Clinical Psychology, highlighting aspects of the program that most attract you.
    • A description of the research topic you would like to explore in your master’s thesis and the academic and/or professional experiences that have prepared you to study that topic.
  8. Please note that the GRE General Test and GRE Psychology Subject Test will not be required for the 2014 cohort.

Applicants accepted into the program must provide written documentation of a Tuberculin Test (PPD) taken within the previous six months (and results of an X-ray if PPD is positive), plus, for students born in 1957 or later, evidence of vaccination against measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR).  In addition, successful  applicants must complete a personal health survey form and submit it to the Student Health Services Office.
