262 Graduate at Fall Commencement
The University of Guam celebrated the accomplishments of its Fall 2015 graduates during
Commencement Ceremonies held this afternoon at the Calvo Field House. UOG conferred
262 degrees, of which, 190 were undergraduate degrees and 72 were graduate degrees.
Commencement Speaker Richard Lui, journalist and news anchor for MSNBC and NBC News, exhorted the graduates to “Tell the story you want, not the story that others want…No matter what your background, your story is important to this country.”
Valedictorian Monaliza De Chavez, who earned a double major in Criminal Justice and Public Administration, noted the importance of graduates giving back to their communities. “I now want to call out all of my fellow graduates to give back as well, whether it is to your family, your friends, your employer, and of course, the University of Guam because without the guidance, support, and opportunities in front of us or behind us, we would not be here today. So please reciprocate!” she said.
The largest number of graduates came from the UOG School of Business and Public Administration, which conferred 78 combined undergraduate degrees in Business Administration, Accounting, Public Administration and Criminal Justice and 31 combined graduate degrees from its Professional Master of Business Administration and Master of Public Administration programs.
