“Team HUH”—made up of Gabbie Franquez, Sylvia Lizama, Kim PAcay, Tony Whitt, and Nicole Tesiro—won first place in the graduate category during the Society of Human Resource Management’s first HR Competition.

 

The University of Guam Society of Human Resource Management student chapter held its first ever Guam Human Resource Competition on March 11 at the School of Business and Public Administration Building.

The University of Guam’s Student Chapter is a chartered member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), which works to develop awareness and understanding of the Human Resource Management functions and importance in business.

The competition is divided into two parts, the first being a speed round where groups answer HR related questions. The second poses a 10-minute hypothetical Human Resource Management case that participants must evaluate and present their conclusion to the judges.

The judges for the competition included Human Resources faculty and Human Resources professionals from different local companies such as GTA, IT&E, the Westin Guam Resort, and the Guam Radiology Center.

Cristen Rios, president of UOG SHRM, said that competition was an exciting and educational way of applying knowledge in the Human Resource field.

“We had great support from a number of UOG Faculty members as well as SHRM Professional Chapter members and various sponsors,” she said. “It was great to see everyone using what they’ve learned in class to help them win.”

UOG SHRM advisor Dr. Richard Colfax said the competition was a success, and he hopes to hold another one in the upcoming fall semester.

“I’m very, very pleased with the quality of the programs, and the students showed that they are focused on Human Resource Management,” he said. “I also love the way that our professionals in the community stepped up to participate and encourage—and keep encouraging our students.”

“Team CO”—made up of Sheena Jose, Kourtney Eay, Jose Guevarrra, Isa Koki, and Evelyn Chu—won second place in the graduate category during the Society of Human Resource Management’s first HR Competition.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“Team SHRMettes”—made up of Annette Leon Guerrero, Loguel Hocog, Aiyana Shedd, Maria Ongpauco, and Aileen Cruz—won first place in the undergraduate category during the Society of Human Resource Management’s first HR Competition.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“Team VolunTOLD”—made up of Dora Jean Ferris, Ryan Eliwise, Maria Calingal, Sarah Zhou, Wenjing Njan, and Nestor Mercado—won second place in the undergraduate category during the Society of Human Resource Management’s first HR Competition.
