UOG Women's Soccer Defeats FC Familia 4-1 In A Tale of Two Halves
The University of Guam Women's Soccer Team defeated FC Familia in the semi-finals of the Guam Football Association Women's 9-On-9
(Division II) League play-offs on Sunday night at the GFA National Training Center.
It was the story of two completely different halves. The first half was dominated
by FC Familia, as they kept the ball in the UOG half of the field and had numerous
shots on the Triton goal. But the UOG defense was able to keep them out of the goalkeeper
box and most the shots went wide of net. UOG was held most of the half to long range
shots from well outside of the Familia goal box as the Tritons could not push through
the Familia back line. But UOG did have a couple of good shot attempts late in the
1st half on the Familia goal.
On a Familia corner kick, the Tritons were called for a hand ball in the box, and
FC Familia was given a penalty kick that they did convert for a goal and a 1-0 lead
that held until half-time.
The 2nd half was completely different, as the Tritons came out with quick feet and
aggressive attitude and pushed by Familia at every turn. FC Familia for the most part
was dominated by the Tritons in the 2nd half, as the ball stayed in the offensive
end for UOG. UOG tied it up early in the 2nd half and then scored the go ahead goal
soon afterwards and two insurance goals after that, one on a corner kick.
Veronica Dydasco, Aiesha Castro, Shaeina Torres and Elisha Benavente all scored goals
for the Tritons in the 2nd half.
UOG is now 3-2 in the 9 On 9 league and got revenge on the FC Familia for a 1-4 loss
to them in the regular season. UOG plays next Sunday at 5:00 p.m. in the Championship
Match for the league against the winner of BOG Strykers or Team Slay at the GFA National
Training Center.
