The University of Guam Men’s Basketball Team signed 6’8” Blake Jenkins to a UOG Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Tritons in 2017-18.

Jenkins played 4 years at Belmont University in Nashville, TN and started 3 years for the Bruins, averaging 10 points per game, with 7 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration and will be in graduate school at UOG majoring Education.

Triton Athletics allows 5 years of eligibility for its student-athletes, and a graduate student can earn a 6th year with an appeal to the University’s Athletic Compliance Committee.

“The average college student takes 5 years to finish a degree now, so when we restarted athletics here at UOG, we wanted a student to have the chance to play sports for 5 years," said UOG Athletic Director Doug Palmer. "If someone wished to earn a master’s degree, why can’t they play sports as well? So we added a 6th year of eligibility for graduate students”.

The NCAA and NAIA only allows 4 years of competition, but UOG is not associated with any mainland US athletic associations and can set its own standards.

Blake comes from a basketball playing family, as his father, Fred Jenkins, played at the University of Tennessee and was drafted in 1987 by the Houston Rockets.

Belmont University won the Ohio Valley Conference all four regulars seasons Jenkins played for the Bruins, winning 3 OVC Basketball Tournaments and Blake played in 3 NCAA March Madness Tournaments as well.

Blake is a native of Brooklyn, NY.
