UOG Men's Basketball Opens Season With Solid Performance But Still Defeated
The University of Guam Men's Basketball Team played a solid game on Sunday night at
the UOG Calvo Field House, losing to the defending champions, the Toothfaries, 85-69.
But the final score does not reflect the majority of the game.
UOG came out and played a solid first quarter against the Toothfaries, and for a time,
got an offensive rhythm going. They were winning after the first period 20-18, but
the offense sputtered in the 2nd quarter and only put up 12 points as the Toothfaries
took an 11-point lead into half-time 43-32.
In the 2nd half, UOG remained between 10-12 points down for most of the half, never
allowing the Toothfaries to pull away. But the Tritons never could make an offensive
run with too many missed shots and layups. UOG only shot 34% for the game and only
made 3 of 19 three pointers. The Toothfaries shot 49% from the floor and hit 10 of
21 three pointers.
Ryan Nangauta scored 18 for UOG and Dezdin Fikes 17 with 11 rebounds while AJ Carlos
scored 10 as the only other double digit scorer for the Tritons. Earvin Jose for the
Toothfaries led all scores with 23.
UOG is 0-1 and plays its next GBA game on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. against the MVP.
