UOG Men's Basketball Drops 84-44 Game To End Spring Season

University of GuamThe University of Guam Men's Basketball Team dropped a 84-44 game to the Outlanders in the GBA Season 3 Playoffs to end their season on a low note, with the lowest points production of the season (44 points) and a 2nd straight 40 point loss to the Outlanders (103-63 on May 8) who were playing without their 6'10" middle man James Collins on the night.

Both teams started out slow, with the Outlanders leading 5-2 after the first 5 minutes of the game but the Outlanders would be leading by 10 by the end of the 1st quarter, 18-8.

Both teams were equal in the 2nd quarter, with UOG only being outscored by one point, 20 to 19, and down 38-27 at half-time.

But the Tritons saved the worst quarter of the season for the third period where they only scored 4 points in the 10 minute period and the Outlanders broke open the game to lead 58-31 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

The Outlanders went on a run to open the 4th period and outscored UOG 16-6 to open a 74-38 lead and cruised to a 84-44 win.

UOG was led by Dez Fikes with 14 points and Ryan Nangauta who added 13 points. The only two double digit scorers on UOG for the night as the Tritons only hit 22% of their shots on the night, 20% from the 3 point line. The Outlanders were led by Roque Charfurous 22 points, Kyle Grimm had 13 points and 18 rebounds.

UOG ended their season 3-10 with the loss. The Outlanders are now 7-6 on the season and move on to play the MVPs next week in the semi-final round of the GBA Playoffs, a 2 out 3 series.

In other action, the Toothfaries defeated the Phoenix to advance to the semi-finals to play the winner of MacTech and Bombers game night at 7:00pm at UOG Calvo Field House.
