UOG Has Great Start But Loses To MacTech 90-78
The University of Guam Men's Basketball Team played their best 17 minutes of basketball in the GBA to start their game with MacTech
on Thursday night at the UOG Calvo Field House. Unfortunately the Tritons still lost
to MacTech 90-78.
UOG started strong, matching MacTech basket for basket in the first quarter, and the
Tritons were up 23-21 at the end of the first period. UOG played even better to start
the 2nd quarter, pushing ahead for a 12 point lead at 39-27 with about 3:50 left in
the half. But then the Triton offense completely shut down, and Mactech went on a
19 point run to lead 46-39 and at half-time 46-41.
The teams played somewhat even in the 2nd half, but MacTech was able to outscore the
Tritons by 6 points in the 3rd quarter to lead 68-57. UOG would cut the lead to 8
points in the 4th quarter, but MacTech would push it back up to 17 and win by 12 at
the end, 90-78.
UOG did have their highest offensive output of the season so far with 78 points, and
their 12 point lead was the biggest in 2 plus seasons of GBA basketball for the team
that is just barely 1 year old. And the Tritons were playing without several players
who were in class on Thursday night.
AJ Carlos led UOG with 20 points while Dezdin Fikes added 16 and Karlo De Leon 12.
UOG Housing Director Jonathon Triplett was the game leading scorer with 41 for MacTech.
The Tritons are 0-4 on the season and play the Phoenix Sons on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Tiyan High School Gym.
