Shaeina Torres Is Named Student-Athlete of the Year at the University of Guam
The University of Guam Triton Athletics named Women’s Soccer player Shaeina Torres
Student-Athlete of the Year for 2016-17 on Wednesday. Torres was selected from over
70 student-athletes who played varsity athletics at UOG in 2016-17.
Shaeina Torres helped lead the Lady Tritons to the Spring 2017 Guam Football Association
Women’s Division 2 Championship plus played on the undefeated UOG GFA Women’s 7-On-7
Team in the Fall of 2016 for the Tritons as well. She is currently playing in the
Women’s Futsal League for UOG this summer.
Shaeina was named Most Valuable Player for the Triton Women’s Soccer team in 2016-17.
She was also voted captain of the women’s soccer team and has started every game for
UOG this year. She plays the mid-field position that UOG Women’s Soccer Coach Rod
Hidalgo calls the “hardest working position on the field”. She has scored 13 goals
for UOG this year.
Torres also was one of the best academic student-athletes for the Tritons in 2016-17,
as she was a member of the Triton Academic Club, reserved for students with 4.00 GPAs
which she maintained for both fall and spring semesters.
“She has great athletic ability with the drive to use her talents combined with a
strong academic desire that pushes her everyday," said UOG Athletic Director Doug
Palmer.
