Life in the Residence Halls
Residents should consider a few things before moving-in to the Residence Halls:
- the space in your room may be limited if you are having a roommate.
- if you are flying to Guam, check the luggage weight and size limits with your airline
- don't bring valuable or irreplaceable personal items unless absolutely necessary
- anything shipped should be labeled to yourself with first and last name, to be received on
or after check-in date
- you may have to carry your items up stairs (there are no elevators)
- do not bring prohibited items (see below)
- some items you may want to wait to purchase until you arrive on Guam (see below),
major stores include Kmart, Home Depot, Micronesia Mall, Guam Premier Outlets (GPO),
and Agana Shopping Center.
Things You May Want to Bring with You
- cash, debit card, and checkbook
- personal ID and passport
- cell phone or phone card
- camera
- clothes (casual, swimwear, etc.) *note that Guam is hot & humid year-round
- insurance card/healthcare information
- medications
- bedding (pillow, sheets and mattress cover for twin-size bed) *this is not provided
when you check-in
- laptop computer
- personal hygiene products (toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, deodorant, etc.)
- stationary supplies (pens, pencils, paper, tape, stapler, calculator, etc.)
- towels
- rubber slippers for showering
- small alarm clock
- snack food
Things You May Want to Purchase When You Arrive to Guam (especially if you're flying)
- basic cooking supplies (pot, pans, utensils)
- eating supplies (plates, bowls, forks, spoons, etc.)
- cleaning supplies (sponge, soap, broom, cleaning chemicals, etc.)
- hangers
- personal fan (for non-air-conditioned rooms)
- laundry basket & detergent
- small refrigerator (cannot exceed 4 cubic feet)
- trash can
- surge protectors (for electrical items)
- mirror
- drinking water container
- umbrella
- first-aid kit
- flashlight
- small plastic tote to carry supplies from room to shower

- dangerous weapons (hunting arrows, machetes, war souvenirs, etc.)
- dogs, cats, birds, snakes, or other animals
- unauthorized heat-producing appliances or devices (clothes dryers, sun lamps, electric
blankets, electric heaters, gas stoves, etc.)
- unauthorized air-conditioners
- refrigerators in excess of 4 cubic ft.
- freezers
- televisions in excess of 20 inches
- non-portable electronic entertainment systems/home systems
