Indiana University, ESnet, and the University of Guam are hosting a 4-day Science Engagement Deep Dive workshop at the University of Guam, August 28-31, 2018. This workshop will offer hands-on training with current research technologies (Science DMZ, DTNs, perfSONAR) as well as interactive, small group Science Engagement designed to understand and improve researcher data movement and workflow.

Problem

Despite the prevalence of technology resources, it is often the case that the research community does not fully unlock the potential of this technology to advance their own needs. In order to solution engineer for end-to-end performance, technologists must work directly with scientific users to understand their specific work patterns and data requirements to identify and address performance issues in their workflows.

Expected Outcomes

The workshop is designed to determine the current and future science data and collaboration needs of the researcher. Trainers will work with researchers to accurately characterize the near-, medium-, and long-term network requirements of the science being performed. This will include investigating, evaluating, and testing data movement systems and working together to create actionable improvement plans to address problems and streamline bottlenecks from the scientific workflow.
