Re: Classes beginning March 30

Håfa Adai UOG Students,

The University of Guam will continue accommodating courses until the end of the semester; however, after Spring Break there will be no on- campus classes for the remainder of the semester. This decision was made for the health and safety of our students and faculty.

Beginning March 30 until the end of the semester, classes will be held online through Moodle, phone conferencing, online video conferencing (Skype for Business, Big Blue Button, or Zoom), recorded lectures (via Big Blue Button, Zoom, or Voice Thread), or through a third -party content provider (Coursera, Khan Academy, or LinkedIn learning), as determined by each professor. Existing online classes will continue as normal.

For courses that have traditionally met in classroom labs, faculty will make arrangements to accommodate via virtual and other means. These will be addressed on a case by case basis.

Our goal is to do whatever we can to help you finish this semester. It will take the collaboration of students, our faculty, staff, and the administration to ensure this semester isn’t lost.

We appreciate the patience of our st udents and your cooperation in the fac e of an unprecedented situation. We must support each other in this new landscape.

Please take note of the following information. Additional questions and concerns can be directed to your respective professors and Deans.

Monitor your GoTritons email

It is crucial that students regularly check their GoTritons email accounts for official university communication and for communications from their instructors on how each class will proceed.

Internet access

Students will need to have access to the internet at home or at another location where they can practice social distancing from others. The UOG Computer Center will have two computer labs open during normal computer lab hours ONLY for use by dorm students and those students who have no other means of accessing the internet. The number of people in the lab at one time will be limited, and the equipment will be sanitized between users.

Arrangements for in-person assignments and projects

If there are specific things for your classes or research that require you to be on campus, such as the use of specific software or the care of plants or animals, please be in touch with your professors and Dean so to make arrangements with the proper precautions.

Accommodations

Students with ADA accommodations should contact their professors if there are any concerns about the new mode of instruction. Sallie Sablan, Senior Academic Counselor, will work with faculty and the Office of Information Technology and the Online Learning Office to ensure reasonable accommodations can be maintained. You can contact her at (671) 735-2640 or email ssablan@triton.uog.edu.

Graduating Students

Students who have applied to graduate should make their professors aware of this. Steps can be taken to ensure all graduating students have an opportunity to pass needed classes, even if it means meeting in person in highly controlled environments.

RFK Library closed

The RFK Library will be closed during the 14-day government shutdown, but access to its online databases will remain accessible. Librarians and reference services will remain accessible via E- Ref, phone, and email through Find-A-Librarian at https://www.uog.edu/student-services/rfk-library/ask-a -librarian.

Contact us

For assistance with Moodle, Zoom, or other alternative classroom tools, please contact moodlehelp@triton.uog.edu or call (671) 735-2620/21.

Faculty will also remain available during their usual office hours via email or phone.

We thank you for your understanding and your commitment to your classes and programs. Please monitor your emails and www.uog.edu/covid-19 for the latest campus updates.
