Fanuchånan 2020 Commencement Ceremony
Edison Manaloto, M.D., CPA, CGFM
Edison P. Manaloto is a two-time University of Guam alumnus and the valedictorian of the Class of 2006. Earlier this year, he returned home to Guam with a third degree — a Doctor of Medicine — and is working as a hospitalist at Guam Regional Medical Center.
After earning his bachelor’s in accounting and master’s in public administration from the University of Guam in 2006 and 2007, respectively, he pursued an ambitious career in both private and public sector accounting — working for Deloitte & Touche, the Hyatt Regency Guam, and Guam’s Office of Finance and Budget.
About five years into his career, he felt inspired to respond to a pressing need in Guam’s community for medical professionals. He applied for medical school at De La Salle Health Sciences Institute in the Philippines, earning his doctorate in 2015 and completing his residency at the University of Hawaii this past June.
In the midst of his new pursuit, he found a way to merge it with his former career path. He became a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Governmental Financial Manager, which has allowed him to provide consulting services in fiscal and also health care policy for local government and business entities. He’s also found an avenue to impact the next generation as adjunct faculty at UOG — teaching accounting, business law, and public administration.
In the true embodiment of the Triton motto — “Excelsior,” or “ever upward” — Dr. Manaloto is not yet done learning. While working full-time at GRMC, he is taking online classes with Liberty University in Virginia toward a Doctor of Public Administration, which he hopes to complete in the next couple years.
In the Triton spirit, he is continually reaching for the next level and finding ways to Rise Above and make a valuable and lasting impact on his home island of Guam.
