Join Marine Laboratory students and faculty for the grand opening of our new Science Learning Center, located on the first floor of the English Language Institute! Learn about Guam's biology and geology and current research happening within Micronesia, as well as the methods used by biologists and conservationists in their research. Our fun and interactive exhibits include a build-your-own-fish station, a model hatching haggan (green sea turtle) nest, and a practice coral transect. And don't miss our stalactite exhibit (courtesy of WERI), DNA display, pollution and marine debris tanks, and our mascot, Diving Dina!
Tours will begin 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Vans will be parked at the top of the hill to shuttle visitors, parking is very limited so personal vehicles are not allowed. Each tour will begin either at WERI or Marine Lab, depending on size of group and/or a need to split-up, seats are limited at WERI. WERI will present 3-D Virtual Tour of the Northern Guam Lens Aquifer (Dr. Habana and Dr. Rouse) followed by Extreme Weather and Other Loud and Dangerous Things (Dr. Lander), together ~25 minutes, 20 seat capacity.
Visitors will then walk over to the Marine Laboratory where they will be introduced to some of Guam’s marine life, while tour guides highlight some of the ongoing research happening at the lab. Guests will have a chance to visit our touch tanks and get up close and personal with some of the (harmless and docile) critters that call our reefs home.

A selection of video documentaries will also be showing throughout, to include: The Pattera of Guam: Their Story and Legacy - Viewers are visually transported back to a pre-World War II era when most children
on Guam were born at home with the help of a pattera, a midwife. Their stories embody the historical and cultural changes that occurred
in Guam during the 1900's.
