Dressed as Marvel Comics' Avengers and channeling what seemed like super-human energies,
the Oh Set Tritons came out victorious for the 5th Annual President’s Cup Volleyball
event.
In the finals, Oh Set Tritons faced Gang Green, which was only able to field four
players. The final score was 15-14.
“It feels great,” said Oh Set Caption Mike Herreros. “Every year I’ve been trying
to put a team together, and I guess this year we planned it out well and had a good
team. We had fun and took it to the championship.”
When asked if he had any doubts when competing with the other teams, Herreros stated
“Somewhat…we didn’t want to be too overly confident. We wanted to do our best. Some
of us were on and off at times but we just had to pick up each other’s slack.”
Up next in the President’s Cup is 3-on-3 Basketball starting at 5:30 p.m. on Monday,
February 27 at the Calvo Field House.

The Bad News Barracudas pulled their way to victory for the second year in a row against
the Pohnpei Student Organization (PSO) on Friday, March 3rd.
Entering the final game, both teams seemed evenly matched. PSO defeated the Barracudas
in the first round of the finals. However, the Barracudas came back much stronger
in the next game and beat PSO.
The Barracudas team captain Matt Mills was pleased with the outcome despite a few
setbacks.
“Winning feels good,” he said. “We came into this remembering that we did win last
year and wanted to repeat it. And even though we were down four or five people, I’m
glad we were able to do so.”
Mills said the overall strategy of the Barracudas was to pull and stop “for continuous
pulling and effort,” which made for a continuous win for the Barracudas.

After several rounds, the Savages were victorious in this year’s President’s Cup 3v3
Basketball event held February 27.
In the intense final match, the Savages faced PSO (Pohnpei Student Organization),
a team they lost to earlier in the night. In the end, the Savages came out as champions
with a final score of 10-8.
Savages team captain Elijah Solang explained that the overall strategy was to observe
the other teams playing styles and adapt throughout each round.
Despite some setbacks, Savages team member Chad Leong said he was thankful that they
won the event.
"It felt amazing because we were not a stacked team,” said Leong. “We only had 4 players
there the whole night, so we just had to play with what we had and get things done.”

The fifth annual President’s Cup Competition kicked off Tuesday night with the Pohnpei
Student Organization (PSO) turning its early lead to ultimate victory in the games.
When it came down to the championship round, PSO faced the ROTC Arctic Panda Monkeys,
last year’s overall reigning champions. With both teams being equally matched in skill
and finesse, the intensity grew during the final two sets between the competitors.
PSO came out victorious defeating the opposing team with score of 15-10 in the final
set.
PSO’s Noriekka Lekka and Liandra Joseph, went undefeated in 5 games including the
finals.
“PSO is one of the top active student organizations at the University of Guam, and
it is really nice and really exciting cause it is our first time to join the President’s
Cup for our organization,” Lekka said.
The duo had no doubts about winning the competition, especially Lekka who plays the
sport back home in Pohnpei. He believes that sports, especially those like Badminton,
which integrate two-on-two competitors, are all about chemistry, teamwork, and unity.
The 5th Annual President’s Cup continues on Monday, February 13 at 5:30 p.m. with

the Savages took the ultimate victory Monday night in Dodge Ball for the 5th Annual
President’s Cup Competition.
With support pouring in from the crowd for both sides, the intensity was high when
the two teams reached the final round.
“They were making so many calls on us, and it started getting intense,” said Savages
Co-Captain Elijah Solang.
Living up to their team name, the Savages recuperated and played fiercely, knocking
out the Barracudas.
Excitement was in the air at the end with the Savages gave a shout-out to the Barracudas
for a worthy challenge following with a final cheer for themselves. The captains of
the Savages expressed overwhelming joy in their team’s win.
“I feel a lot better than what I am showing,” Solang said. “I just want to explode
and scream! I might as well do it right now!”
