Håfa Adai UOG Community,

As the University of Guam continues to monitor Tropical Storm 09W, all units and departments are highly encouraged to begin storm preparations before the upcoming three-day weekend.

While there are currently no tropical cyclone watches or warnings in effect for Guam, forecasts indicate the system could strengthen significantly and potentially affect the Marianas late Sunday into Monday.

To help protect University facilities and equipment, please complete the following before leaving for the weekend:

  • Secure or store outdoor furniture, equipment, signage, and other loose items that could become airborne during high winds.

  • Remove trash and debris from entrances and surrounding work areas to help prevent clogged drains.

  • Close and secure all windows and doors.

  • Move electronics, important equipment, and documents away from windows. If possible, place items on raised surfaces such as desks or tables in the event of water intrusion.

  • Turn off and unplug non-essential electrical equipment where practical.

  • Report any concerns, such as roof leaks, damaged windows, or blocked drainage areas, to Facilities Management Services as soon as possible.

Attached is the latest public advisory from Guam Homeland Security / Office of Civil Defense as of 8 A.M. today.
