UOG Names Hidalgo Chief Information Officer
The University of Guam has named Rommel Hidalgo its new Chief Information Officer.
Hidalgo is a graduate of UOG, who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology in
1995 and a Master of Business Administration in 1997. He earned a Masters of Science
degree in Management Science / Information Systems from California State University
Fullerton.
Hidalgo returns to his alma mater after spending over 18 years abroad. He most recently served as California State University Fullerton's Assistant Vice President of Information Technology and was also a member of the faculty, teaching Information Systems and Decision Sciences at the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics.
"We welcome Rommel back home to Guam and the University and we look forward to his leadership in ensuring that we are connected to the world for 21st century research and teaching activities," said UOG President Dr. Robert Underwood.
Hidalgo said he’s excited to return to not only Guam but also to the University that, besides Cal State Fullerton, helped him realize his passions and shape his career path.
“It’s a very big honor for me to have been selected to serve in a position that I’ve
been groomed to do at the institution to which I owe so much,” Hidalgo said. “I have
lifelong ties and loyalty to the University of Guam. The island and UOG raised, molded
and altered my economic and academic trajectory in life. I would not be where I am
today without the opportunities and experiences I was exposed to on the island and
at UOG.”
Hidalgo said one major improvement he’d like to see in regards to information systems
at the University is to update the IT infrastructure and implement higher speed connectivity
to the Internet and to the global research and education networks. He said with these
updates, students and faculty would have greater access to the digital tools necessary
for modern University instruction and overall learning.
