The University of Guam commissioned its largest class of Triton Warriors in the last 15 years at a recent ceremony held at the Guam National Guard Readiness Center in Barrigada.

Lt. Col. Jay Blakely announced that 19 cadets were commissioned on May 21 and one more will be commissioned later this summer, making a total of 20 2nd lieutenants from the University of Guam’s Spring 2016 graduating class to enter the U.S. Army.

“These students are high quality, every single one of them,” Blakely said. “It’s a fantastic privilege to commission that many officers at one time. It shows the growing support for the military community and the University of Guam.”

Brig. Gen. Rodrick Leon Guerrero, the Guam National Guard adjutant general and UOG alumnus, said it’s always an honor to speak during commissioning ceremonies, especially those at his alma mater.

“I graduated from the University of Guam, and UOG and its ROTC program have a special place in my heart,” he said. “From one Triton to another, I try to impart some of the knowledge I’ve gained over the years to the graduating cadets.”
